When I've Got My Skates On // Daily Outfit

"Some days are horrible - like you trip in the hall and your skirt flies over your head just when the jock you like is walking past. Some days are just 'ok.' Maybe you find a $20 bill, but you get a parking ticket. And some days are just so amazingly awesome and everything with the world is right!"

Reasons why the day I wore this dress was awesome:

  • It was the perfect almost-spring-day! I woke up to the sound of birds in the trees, it was unny and not too cold. Spring, please come quickly!
  • I drove with the windows down for one of the first times this year
  • I just recently bought a pair of socks just like my white thigh highs but in the gray, and I wore them for the first time with this outfit. I love them so much. Seriously so comfortable. I want them in black, too, and I'm even thinking about getting a pair for a giveaway. Does anyone think this is a good idea!?
  • I used my new make-up palette, Boudoir Eyes by Too Faced, to try my hand at the smokey eye the girl at Ulta did on me. It wasn't as good as hers, but it didn't suck, either!
  • I loved my make-up, and was pleased with my hair/make-up, so I felt great all day!
  • I went ice skating for the first time in four years, which was awesome despite all the mothers bringing their little daughters to practice figuring skating which meant me being shown up by a couple of five year olds.
  • After searching for over a year I finally bought the perfect purple lipstick - not too purple-y, and not too dark! Thank you, MAC cosmetics!
  • Semi caught up with one of my bestest girl friends.
  • It was payday so I got to pick up my check + say hello to my co-workers, which - of course - ending up being a discussion on how great Jeffery Campbell shoes are (in the words of my co-worker "he knows how to make shoes!" YEAH GIRL!)
  • I realized when I looked at my paycheck stub that I got a pay raise, so I am now $.25 per hour closer to being rich. Yay me!
  • I burned so many calories ice skating, that I ate whatever I want when I got home, completely guilt free. (I really need to ice skate more often, y'all!)

Lit Up the World as I Fell Asleep // Daily Outfit

I wore this Monday. I had to work in the early afternoon, and after that Molly and Miss Jack and I went out to Lake Forest to get desert, and Highland Park for some window shopping. It was really fun and afterward we stopped at the local park to get some outfit pictures - Molly and I thought it would be fun to do a few outfit shots with both of us.

It's so fun to have friends around to do stuff with, and I've been having so much fun with them, but I've also been realizing just how much I appreciate my time alone. Even just little things like blogging - I honestly don't think I could cope without it! It's my little place to just be me and relax and do what I love. Sometimes being alone isn't lonely. ♥

Sister Gypsy // Daily Outfit

"Not all that is gold glitters
Not all those who wander are lost"
~ The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien

Lately I've come to the conclusion that it's better to be alone and be yourself, than be with other and feel judged/unaccepted/etc. Don't get me wrong, I love being with friends, but sometimes I just need to be alone. I need to be able to think and be myself and not worry what others are thinking of me.

There's a thin line between being there for your friends and not being there for yourself - a very thin line that I often find myself tumbling off. I mean, I want to be there for my friends (Who doesn't?) but if it has a negative effect on me, and is leaving me stressed/frustrated/exhausted all the time then that's not ok. Sometimes I just want someone to think about me, you know?

Anyway, I felt like such a gypsy in this outfit! The earrings reminded me of those big hoops you always see gypsies in the movies wearing, and the scarf also made me think of movie-style gypsy. I don't think I've ever mentioned it on here before, but I used to have (and still do, to some extent) a huge love of gypsies. Not the My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding kind, but like the old fashioned kind in books/movies. I created a whole gypsy culture for a book that never actually got finished, and I've gone to the Bristol Renaissance Faire dressed as a gypsy for four years in a row now. Good times. ♥

Old Friends // Daily Outfit

{dress / Red Dress Shoppe :: skirt / thrifted :: sandals / Merona :: belt / H&M :: jacket / Topshop :: necklace / Target :: flower hair clip / H&M}

Despite what Jack Baillot may try to tell you I do have a favorite season: spring.

I give the credit of my love of spring to my friends Dickon and Mary Lennox. They taught me to notice the little things: the most turning green again and the small buds on the trees. The smell of the earth as it warms, and the songs of birds. They taught me not only to notice but to count each thing as a promise of of summer's arrival.

As much as I can't wait to be able to move away from here, I know I will hate being somewhere new for the first year. I've spend over ten years crawling about every inch of my neighborhood. I've spent ten springs watching everything unfold and turn green again and I'm used to it. I get so excited when I'm able to carry on a conversation with the first chickadee of the year (they have such a distinct call), and the first tie I see a cardinal. I love when the weather warms up and I am able to visit all my old haunts for the first time in months. I greet them as long neglected friends - excited to re-discover everything I love about them.

This park is one of my newer haunts. It's a large, open, grassy field, surrounded on all sides by back yards. There is only one entrance to it, which is hardly marked. It's one of those places that can only be found by "those who already know where it is." One of my old childhood friends showed me it last summer, but surprisingly, this was the first time I went by myself. I'd forgotten how magical it is. It's just such a quaint place. The houses around it aren't fancy, but they seem sort of old fashioned to me - like something out of the 20's or 30's. I just love it. ♥

On another note, I don't usually re-post outfits, but after I got dressed today I realized that this outfit is very much like this other one I wore last April. I think this is the first time I've ever had relatively the same taste in style for nearly a whole year. Go me!

I Knew You One Upon a Dream // Daily Outfit

{dress//Red Dress Shoppe :: skirt//thrifted :: tights//Target :: shoes//courtesy of Blowfish Shoes :: jacket//Top Shop :: necklace//made by me}

This is my new leather jacket. (I wore it in my last outfit post, too, but I forgot to mention it.) When I saw this leather jacket on Pinterest, I knew it was the thing of dreams. I set about to track it down, and found that Top Shop had a very similar one - which was sold out. They had a tall one, but I was a little unsure about how it would fit. I decided to try it anyway, so I ordered it. And my bank put a hold on my card. So I called my bank, and they "fixed it." So I ordered it again - and had another hold put on my card. I did this four times (btw, I now hate my bank). Finally I just called the stor in Chicago to see if they had it in stock, and while they didn't have the tall size, they did have the original one in stock! And they had one left in my size! So I had them hold it and got it the next day when we met up with my aunt and uncle in the city for lunch - and I've been wearing it ever since. Yay for happy endings!

On another note, I am going to start a shop my closet Store Envy shop this week if anyone is interested. I have a few thrifted finds that I just don't wear anymore, a pair of hardly worn black booties from Target, and several lovely vintage dresses that just aren't my style (including this one). I'll post about that when I have it up.

Hope you all are having a lovely Monday so far!

Wallflower // Daily Outfit

{dress//Red Dress Shoppe :: blouse//ModCloth :: skirt//thrifted :: tights//Target :: boots//Blowfish Shoes :: belt//thrifted}

I took these pictures last week - at dusk, which is why they're so bad. I felt like wearing something really bright and sort of rockabilly-ish, so this is what I came up with.

How was everyone's weekend? I was feeling a little (er, lot) under the weather on Saturday so I spent most of the day in my room. Blech. Sunday was better, though. We met up with dad's brother and his family in Chicago, went out for lunch, did some shopping, and I spent the afternoon texting my two best friends - which is always fun. They're the kind of people that are just really, really easy to talk to, and really "get" me, and talking to them can almost always put a smile on my face. You know what I mean?

Anyway, I also got to stop in at Top Shop to pick up a jacket I'd asked them to hold for me. It was sold out in my size online, but luckily there's a Top Shop in Chicago, and they had one left in my size. So now my dream leather jacket is now mine. Wahoo! ♥

A Girl and Her Car Dreams // Daily Outift

{dress//Red Dress Shoppe :: skirt//thrifted :: tights//Target :: boots//courtesy of Blowfish Shoes :: bag//ModCloth :: necklace//ModCloth :: jacket//Wet Seal}

Only one picture for this outfit post, due to the fact that my camera's batteries ran out. Grrr. I hate that.

I was hoping to go for a girly-meets-rocker-ish look with this, but I think it failed. I don't really, care though, because it's comprised of some of my favorite pieces in my closet. They're just me - especially the necklace. I got it on sale from ModCloth - despite it's bad reviews - and it's my favorite piece of jewelry ever. I mean, a big, gold, 1950's rockabilly car necklace?? You just can't get any cooler than that! Unless of course it be a real 1950's rockabilly car. ♥

Red Hot Love // Daily Outfit

{dress//The Red Dress Shoppe :: skirt//thrifted :: tights//Merona :: belt//thrifted :: shoes//UrbanOg :: sunglasses//Delia's via my little sister :: head band//D.I.Y :: jacket//Wet Seal}

I actually wore this outfit several weeks ago, but I wanted to post it before I get into all the holiday posts.

My big sis, Jack, helped me plot out this outfit after I got my red ballet flats and needed something to wear with them. Red is one of my favorite colors - very recently, too. I just can't get enough of it! Red shoes, red headbands, red cardigans, red flowers in floral dresses and I'm hoping to get a pair of red tights and red coat this winter! It just makes me feel so pretty and confident whenever I wear it.

Do you have a favorite color to wear? One that makes you feel great whenever you put it on? What is it? Comment and tell me!
