An Airplane Carried Me to Bed // Daily Outfit

"She was still wearing white and Robin's egg blue,
her grandmother's dress"

"We are lost in the sound
Close your eyes
And I will twirl you around.
"

"And I'll be your escort in a sad waltz around the room
I'll twirl you all around without a sound
"

It took me forever to finally decide on a name for this post. I was listening to Brielle by Sky Sailing when I began putting this post together, and I had a moment where I was just like "that's it. That's what this post is." But none of the dozens of lines I tried worked. Then I realized that this post isn't Brielle, or Tennis Elbow, or A Little Opera Goes a Long Way - it's all of them. It reminds me of the entire An Airplane Carried Me to Bed album.

For those of you who don't know, An Airplane Carried Me to Bed is the only album by the band, Sky Sailing. A project of Adam Young before he started Owl City, and one of my favorite collections of songs ever. It's not very well known, even though I think it's some of his best work. Every song is simple in musical composition, despite the fact that the lyrics are riddled with hidden meanings. Acoustic guitars and simple piano melodies will sing you to sleep while you find yourself realizing that Tennis Elbow isn't about tennis at all. You'll find yourself being carried off to fields of tall grass bathed in gorgeous sunlight while the few sparse trees cast long shadows. At least, if you're anything like me, you will.

Or maybe I'm just "lost in the sound."

P.S. This is my first proper outfit shoot with Thornton! I had a bit of trouble since it was hard to know where to focus with all the grass getting in the way, and me not being, you know, in front of the camera, but I'm still really pleased with the result! What do you all think?

Across the Universe of Time // Daily Outfit

{dress/thrifted :: cardigan/Lace Affair :: tights/Target :: boots/Blowfish Shoes :: belt/courtesy of Conversation Pieces :: flower clip/gift}

Isn't this little scotty belt just the cutest?? Audrey from Conversation Pieces was sweet enough to send it my way and I smitten with it! I love getting packages from Audrey so much. Not only does her shop carry some of the most adorable/lovely clothes, but everything always comes wrapped so pretty with tissue paper and a lolly-pop tied up in some ribbon. One of these days I'm going to not be impatient and take a picture before I unwrap the package. ♥

This is what I wore on Monday. I can't even begin to express to you what that day was like - I was so mood swingy all day, and then finally lost it later that night. I learned a lot, though. One of those things is that I had no idea just how much I still need my mother. Luckily I'm feeling better now, and even though my hopes, dreams, and plans for the next couple years of my growing up has changed drastically, I'm more excited than ever!

Last night I took the time to tweek my Twitter and FaceBook pages after reading this very helpful article on personal branding. I'll admit that I still have a lot to learn about personal branding and what exactly I want to do in that area, but I feel like every day I'm getting closer to it, and what I want my "brand" to be for myself - even in real life - and it excites me so much!

Until next time, lovelies... ♥

P.S. Get free shipping from Conversation Pieces now until April 1st!

The Sands of Time // Daily Outfit

{blouse/ModCloth :: skirt/made by me :: belt/thrifted :: boots/Blowfish Shoes :: bracelet/made by me :: jacket/TopShop}

This blouse is seriously one of my favorite purchases ever. It's just so me! I love the color (I've loved pink almost as long as I've been alive) and the sheer top, and sweet-heart neckline reminds me of the dresses from White Christmas - a movie that I've loved since I was a little girl. ♥

Do you have any pieces of clothing that speak to you for whatever reason? I'd love to hear about it!

Rose // Daily Outfit

{jeans/Old Navy :: tank/my moms :: cardi/Lace Affair :: jacket/Ebay :: necklace/ModCloth :: flats/courtesy of Blowfish Shoes}

If you follow me on Twitter you've probably noticed that I got my drivers license on Thursday! Yipee! I've wanted to drive for as long as I can remember, and I have to say that I am loving my new found freedom just as much as I thought I would!

Sooo... without further ado, let me introduce you to Rose! *fanfare* Rose is a 2000 Volkswagon Jetta formerly owned by my elderly aunt, who had to give her up due to her inability to drive. (My aunt that is, not Rose. Rose runs like a dream!) My aunt gave her to my parents to say "thank you" for all the help they gave her when she moved into an assisted living apartment this summer. And, since both my parents already each have a car, I get to use her practically whenever I want! My little sis and I have already fitted her up with an air freshener from Bath and Body works (my lil' sis is addicted to that store as bad as I am to ModCloth!), and my dad even replaced the old, tape-playing radio for a spiffy new one with MP3 hook up. Woohoo!

Anyway, I had some errands to do Saturday morning so this is what I wore. Cardi + skinny jeans + ballet flats is my go-to comfy-chic outfit. I just got this cardi in the mail on Friday. I got it from Lace Affair after it sold out on ModCloth. I desperately needed a new black cardigan, and I thought this was a fun alternative to a boring solid black one. And of course I just had to wear my favorite car necklace! ♥

P.S Sorry for the bad quality of pictures. It was super foggy down at the beach! (So awesome.)

Wondering Kind // Daily Outfit

{dress/ModCloth :: shorts/thrifted :: cardigan/Francesca's Collection :: belt/H&M :: hat/H&M :: necklace/Target :: shoes/courtesy of Blowfish Shoes}

I cannot even believe it's Friday! This week was my spring break for me and my sisters, but I still had some school to get done so I can be ahead before I got on my trip in May. Despite that I still had a chance to get a lot of blogging stuff done, and I have some great posts planned for the next couple weeks that I cannot wait to show you all!!

It's been so warm here lately I've been able to go bare legged - an unusual phenomenon for in March around here. Yesterday I took the opportunity to don my favorite pair of shorts, and wear my straw hat.

This weather makes me miss Jack soooo much! It reminds me so much of the weather in Tennessee/Alabama when we went to our friend Sarah's wedding last April. I wish I was going to see Jack next month (and that the weather would be this nice when I do!) but unfortunately I'm just going to have to wait until May. The good news is that getting to be with her on her 25th birthday is worth waiting an extra month for. ;)

Do any of you have any adventures planned for this spring/summer?

Blue and Red // Daily Outfit

{skirt/thrifted :: tank top/my mom's :: belt/thrifted :: boots/Blowfish Shoes :: necklace/Target :: jacket/TopShop :: bow/handmade :: lipstick/Kat Von D's Painted Love Lipstick in Underage Red}

Sorry for the photo over load. I feel so narcissistic posting this many pictures of myself, but the truth is: I love photography and right now I'm the only model available to myself to work with, since all my friends live so far away. Having said that, I really love how these photos turned out. The difference between a point and shoot and legit DSLR is amazing. ♥

Some days I just feel so grown up in such a great way. I know what I want to do with my life and I'm going to go after it. The nearer and nearer my graduation gets the more thankful I am that I decided not to go to college. I know that it works for a lot of people and I'm happy for them, but I know that it would have been a very, very bad decision for me - not to mention one that would have been made for all the wrong reasons. I'm confident that I'm heading on the path God wants me to, and I'm so incredibly excited to see what He has in store for me in the next year or two!

Old Friends // Daily Outfit

{dress / Red Dress Shoppe :: skirt / thrifted :: sandals / Merona :: belt / H&M :: jacket / Topshop :: necklace / Target :: flower hair clip / H&M}

Despite what Jack Baillot may try to tell you I do have a favorite season: spring.

I give the credit of my love of spring to my friends Dickon and Mary Lennox. They taught me to notice the little things: the most turning green again and the small buds on the trees. The smell of the earth as it warms, and the songs of birds. They taught me not only to notice but to count each thing as a promise of of summer's arrival.

As much as I can't wait to be able to move away from here, I know I will hate being somewhere new for the first year. I've spend over ten years crawling about every inch of my neighborhood. I've spent ten springs watching everything unfold and turn green again and I'm used to it. I get so excited when I'm able to carry on a conversation with the first chickadee of the year (they have such a distinct call), and the first tie I see a cardinal. I love when the weather warms up and I am able to visit all my old haunts for the first time in months. I greet them as long neglected friends - excited to re-discover everything I love about them.

This park is one of my newer haunts. It's a large, open, grassy field, surrounded on all sides by back yards. There is only one entrance to it, which is hardly marked. It's one of those places that can only be found by "those who already know where it is." One of my old childhood friends showed me it last summer, but surprisingly, this was the first time I went by myself. I'd forgotten how magical it is. It's just such a quaint place. The houses around it aren't fancy, but they seem sort of old fashioned to me - like something out of the 20's or 30's. I just love it. ♥

On another note, I don't usually re-post outfits, but after I got dressed today I realized that this outfit is very much like this other one I wore last April. I think this is the first time I've ever had relatively the same taste in style for nearly a whole year. Go me!

Silk Road // Daily Outfit

{dress//ModCloth :: underskirt//thrifted :: cardigan//Target :: necklace//ModCloth :: shoes//Xhilaration}

As lovely as the weather was on Tuesday, it was even nicer on Wednesday! Sixty-seven degrees, and blisteryingly windy! I loved it. Of course I couldn't miss a chance to go bare-legged for the first time, so I slipped on my Emily and Fin dress. I love this dress so much, but it always feels so dressy to me! I tried to dress it down a bit with the sandals + cardigan, and I hoped I succeeded. I just love this dress too much to have resisted wearing it in such lovely weather.

On another note, I've been super restless lately. As soon as it warms up every spring I get this sudden need for an adventure - especially traveling. I just want to jump in the car and drive somewhere! I'm so glad I have a trip to look forward to later this spring - even if it isn't until nearly summer. I desperately need an adventure and I miss my best friends so much. I just want to see them again, and talk and laugh and watch movies together - because I'm fairly certain that my friends are the best ever. True story.

Before I close this post, some of you expressed interest in seeing my shop my closet store once I got it up. I don't have everything listed yet, but I have a good six things or something... anyway, here is the link if you want to take a look.

Hope you all are having a lovely Friday so far! (My second Favorites Friday post will go up at 1pm and I'm super excited because I have some lovely things to share, so be sure to check back for that!)
