There's a Light Snow // Daily Outfit

Lately my outfit posts have been going up quite a bit after I actually wore them. I just have so many they're getting a bit backlogged! This outfit is actually from a couple Saturday's ago. I wore it to work because Saturdays are "dress up days" and jeans are not allowed. I just love the the floral pattern looks with my new gingham ModCloth cardigan, and somehow I think the pops of bright red keep the whole thing balanced. ♥

The food pictures in this set were taken at one of my favorite cafe/delis in the area. It's a block away from where I work, and has the best salads, bread and some of the most gorgeous looking/delicious pastries I've ever seen! Seriously, it looks like a Pinterest food board in there, most of the time!

Tonight I'm picking up Molly from the train station in Chicago so we can spend three fun days at my house dressing up, taking pictures and doing all the sort of things that childhood best friends do. I'm so looking forward to it! We haven't spend any significant time just the two of us in the past three years. What!?

Do you have any fun weekend plans?

xo,

Katie Burry

Owlsom Dress // Daily Outfit

I loved this dress from eShakti so much I just had to wear it twice in a week! This outfit is what I wore to work. I pinned the dress up because I can't stand wearing knee length dresses with tights - it's a major peeve of mine. Also, look how cute my new hair cut looks when worn curly! I seriously love it.

One of my favorite parts of this dress is the owls on the skirt. If you've read my blog for more than two seconds you'll know that Owl City is my favorite band ever, and since I love having clothes that very obviously reflect my personality this dress was a perfect fit! I'm still trying to decide if I want to wear it to the concert, though... Usually I like to wear clothes that are more "cool" - as Lauren put it - but a dress with owls on it just might be too much to pass up..

xo,

Katie

Mountains in the Midwest // Daily Outfit

Over the weekend my family and I went to our regular pumpkin far to get pumpkins to make jack-o-lanterns (you can see mine here!), and I just knew I had to wear my new plaid dress! Plaid and a farm just seem to go hand in hand.

Is there something about growing up in the Midwest and plaid? Do they just go together like peanut butter and jelly or something? It seems like Adam Young wears it lots, Jessica from Midwest Muse just did a post about her thoughts on plaid, and I've always had a bit of a love affair with it. I really hope my future husband will love plaid and have lots of flannel plaid shirts that I can steal from him. ♥

In other news We Love Colors were kind enough to send me these tights several months ago, but this is my first time wearing them! First it was too hot, but then I just had no idea what to wear them with! When I got this dress (from the thrift store for $5 with Target tags still on it, I might add!) I knew I just had to pair them together! I really love the sort of "country-rocker" look of this outfit.

Alligator Sky // Daily Outfit

First of all, I promise my lipstick isn't this neon pink IRL! I don't why, but the lighting in these photos made it look super weird.

Secondly, I have a funny story for you gals (guys?) today: since it's been getting dark earlier lately, and because I usually don't get off work till at least six, I've had to start leaving earlier and getting my photos before I go into work. And since I really don't want to run into any of my co-workers while taking said photos - I mean, they know about my blog, but knowing and actually seeing me run around taking photos of myself are two very different things and I'd like to keep them separate, if possible... So to avoid any awkward run-ins, I usually stop in the town next to the one I work in to get pictures.

Well, on this particular day I noticed a stylish couple walking around the downtown area I was in. I noticed because he was wearing a long black pea coat and it reminded me of Sherlock or some other British guy. They saw me taking photos and running back and forth between my camera and where I was standing for the pictures, but I didn't pay any mind because a lot of people see me doing this and I've kind of gotten used to the stares. I finished my pictures and went into work (and still managed to arrive five minutes early I might add!) and didn't think any thing of it... until about a half an hour later, that is when who should walk into the shoppe but the afore mentioned smartly dressed couple?? I swear all I could think was "omgsh they must think I'm crazy." Yeah... these are the things that happen to you when you style blog...

In other news this is the last time you'll see these We Love Colors tights on le blog as they snagged while I was lugging huge wooden blocks out of our window so I could I clean it. Why do I get the feeling I'm going to be going through a lot of tights this winter...

The Dowager Countess // Daily Outfit

Oh you guys! I cannot even tell you how much I have been wanting to wear this dress! It's from this awesomely gorgeous indie brand called Love Marks, and as soon as it came into the shoppe I work at it was love at first sight. I mean, this dress has everything I crave: a Peter Pan collar, polka-dots, lace; a sweet heart neckline and a sheer lace top; and yet it's done in such an edgy, non-frilly way. The fitted skirt is a bit different from my usual style, but I love it! Unfortunately it's not something that would be at all practical for at work, so it's been hanging in my closet this past two weeks just waiting for to get some love until I finally got a chance to wear it last weekend.

This dress reminds me a lot of a 1920's style dress, so I just couldn't resist giving this post a Downton Abbey inspired title. The Dowager Contess (a.k.a Violet Grantham) is by far my favorite character in the show. I've loved Maggie Smith since I watched the Secret Garden when I was five (long before she was in HP!), and it only helps that the Dowager Countess is such a kick butt character! She always has a wity quip, and is just so "this is who I am. Deal with it" that I can't help but love her even she she is  unfeeling and snotty to the other characters.

What do you think of the Dowager Countess? Do you love her as much as I do, or do you have another favorite character? Don't be afraid to comment - I love talking about BBC shows with anyone who will geek out with me. *grins innocently*

On another subject, I have really been making an effort to wear more accesorries and I think it's paying off. I wore three pieces of jewelery and a belt in this outfit! I don't think I've ever had to list this many peices for one outfit before - not that I'm complaining! I think it adds a lot more interest to my outfits than I previously had...

Bombshell Brunette // Daily Outfit

On Saturday my uncle tied the knot with his lovely girlfriend (now wife)!

It was a really interesting experiance considering it was the first wedding I've been two in over a year where I didn't have to work (although I still did!), and the first time a sort of "childhood friend" has gotten married. My uncle I have never been super close, but I remember playing with him when I was four or five (we're only seven years apart), and it was so weird to see him getting married! I think the weird thing about growing up is that you don't realize you're doing it until suddenly you're like "holy cow! I'm only a year younger than my dad was when he got married!"

On an entirely different subject, I feel I should inform you all that these pictures were not taking in an as out-of-the-way place as they appear. That road was actually the road 110% of the wedding guests had to drive down to get to the church and I was literally right in front of the church driveway so I'm pretty sure I was known as the "weirdo who was standing in the middle of the road taking pictures of herself" for the rest of the night but I don't care because these pictures turned out so well they are totally worth having almost got run over for. ♥

La La Land // Daily Outfit

No, the title of this post has nothing to do with those Lalaloopsy dolls (although, now that I think of it, this outfit does slightly resemble something they would wear...). It's the title of one of my favorite songs by Demi Lovato, and whenever I wear a leather jacket I always think of her, since she was a huge style icon for me when she was working with Disney. (Am I the only one who misses Sonny with a Chance??) I still draw inspiration from her style back then.

Speaking of stylish ladies, I actually bought this dress for the lovely Kaelah of Little Chief Honeybee. I fell in love with it the minute I saw it on her Instagram closet sale and I am so glad I snapped it up! It fits like a dream and is the most perfect party dress ever - and I just love how awesome it looks with my matching Lita knock offs! I wore this outfit when I went shopping with my girl friend, Emily and her boy friend and I got so many compliments on my shoes/outfit. One really nice employee at TopShop even told me that "the Litas made the outfit." Is it vain of me to love getting compliments on my outfit when I go out? I just love putting together outfits so much! Someday I want to own my own indie clothing boutique where I'll sell gorgeous party dresses and serve tea all day long. ♥

And Think of Me

{dress//Red Dress Shoppe :: white skirt//thrifted :: tights//We Love Colors :: belt//thrifted :: cardigan//Old Navy :: flower clip//H&M :: sunglasses//ModCloth :: boots//Blowfish Shoes}

I wore this outfit last week (I'm really behind in outfit posts). I love how pieces from indie shops are in this outfit. The dress is from The Red Dress Shoppe, the tights are from We Love Colors, the sunglasses are ModCloth and the boots are from Blowfish shoes. Score! I love wearing clothes from indie designers!

I also love how pretty my tights look with the fallen leaves. They almost seemed to match. ♥
