Easter Brunch // Daily Outfit + Sponsored eShakti Review

Hello, all! I trust you had a good Easter. Mine was great! Since my mom's sister (who usually hosts Easter) was out of town my family went out to brunch at the hotel at a forest preserve on our way back from church. It was a lovely place, and the food was delicious! They even had a set up where you could get an omelet cooked to order with whatever put in it that you wanted, and a made-to-order waffle set up! It was great! Then afterwards we spent the day visiting family. It was really nice.

I've already done a general review of eShakti, so I won't get into the general awesomeness of eShakti in this post, but several weeks ago I was contacted by them again about doing a review of their spring line. I chose to snap up this beauty, and I'm really happy with it! I love the color + shape of it, and the quality of the material. It's lightweight so it won't be too hot in the summer, but not cheap feeling. I love that. ♥

I did have two problems with it, though. The first one was my fault. I love my other dress from eShakti, but for this one I wanted it about an inch shorter. I'm too scared to use the "higher than knee length" option when ordering from eShakti, since I can always shorten the dress, but I can't add length. So when I ordered this length I had a brilliant idea: put my height in as not quite what it really is, so the dress will be a bit shorter on me when I get it! It's a really good idea, I think, except that I said I was 5' 9" when I should have said I was 5' 7". Gaaah! So I had to take it to the tailor after I got it. Me and my blonde moments!

The second problem I had with it was the shoulder straps. They were really, really big on me. Like, the entire bust of the dress didn't fit right because I needed about an inch taken off each shoulder strap. I thought it might have just been because I'm short waist-ed, but then I remembered that Katherine had the same problem with her first dress from eShakti, which looks like exactly the same style... So I'm not sure what's up with that, but I love the dress, and I can't wait to wear it more this summer - especially after I get my crinoline petticoat! I think it will look super amazing with that! ♥

Wah Wah Watusi // Daily Outfit + Eshakti Review

Being the tallish gal that I am makes it difficult to find dresses that are actually, you know - long enough! So when Lauren posted Eshakti, I knew I wanted to try it! Of course, wanting to and doing are two different things, and I just never got around to it. So of course I jumped at the chance when Jane from Eshakti contacted me about doing a review.

Selection

There were so many lovely dresses that at first I wasn't sure how in the world I was going to pick just one, but in the end I realized that I kept coming back to this same, swingy, 1950's inspired frock with the embroidered owls on the skirt. Very Owl City, amirite?

Sizing

I went with Eshakti's standard sizing because I'm terribly picky about the fitting of my dresses, and I chose a knee length because there is nothing worse than ordering a dress you think will be long enough, only to find out that it is - in all actuality - too short. So I figured I'd better be on the safe side. The dress is actually a little longer than I expected (I probably could have chosen the "above knee length option since they take your height with the order - duh!), and when I first tried it on I was actually worried that I would be uncomfortable in it since I usually wear shorter dresses, but I ended up loving it! I felt like such a doo wop babe all day.

Quality

And the dress itself is really good quality. The fabric is really nice - you can tell it's good quality, but it's thin enough that it won't be too hot in the summer - and even with picking a custom dress and ordering it the day before Christmas eve, I still received it within two weeks (with Christmas Eve, Christmas and New Years Eve and Day I wasn't expecting it to come for several more days).

Odds and Ends

I think that's everything I wanted to to cover - oh, except that it has a lovely cut out in the back. It's really nice and not too low that I'd be uncomfortable with it, but I didn't get a photo of it because my bra strap showed and I'm not sure what to do about that so I just wore a black tank top under it. If any of you have any suggestions as to how to hide the unsightly band I'd love to hear them, because I'd love to wear it without a tank in the summer - it's just so pretty! ♥

P.S. Can you believe I'm wearing a dress without tights in the middle of January!? We had a sudden "heat" wave on Friday and it was nearly 50 degrees!

Glasses USA Review

So earlier this year, the folks at GlassesUSA.com contacted me about doing a post for them, and were kind enough to send me a gift card to get a pair of glasses to review. But before I show you which ones I got, I want to talk a little about the experience:

First of all, when I first got on the site I have to admit that I was completely overwhelmed! They have so many different kinds of eyeglasses and frames, and you can even get the frames with just glass if you want. They also had a bunch of lovely vintage inspired frames, which made me happy. They also have a 110% lowest price guarantee and a 110% satisfaction guarantee; and offer exclusive discounts to their FaceBook and Twitter fans (which I didn't use because gift cards don't work with discounts.)

So anyway, being as indecisive as it is, I had to recrute the help of my big sister to help me decide which glasses to get. After a lot of thought (and whining on my part) I finally decided to get a pair of prescription glasses instead of fake lenses to wear with contacts. Then I had to chose a frame. They had a really cool virtual mirror that let me try on some of the pairs I was looking at, which was really fun, and helped me decide on which frames I wanted.

Once I chose a frame I needed to put your prescription in so I could get the correct frames. I called my eye doctor and had them mail me my prescription, but oh my goodness, I had no idea how hard those things are to read. I would have been completely lost if GlassesUSA.com hadn't had a short article on reading prescriptions. It was a life saver! I was hugely impressed with the shipping. It was supposed to take several days to finish the glasses and then several more days after they shipped, but I got the glasses just three days later, which was a really nice surprise.

And now for the glasses: the glasses are gorgeous and I'm really happy with how they look on. It's fun to have a pair of colorful, non-geeky looking glasses, and just to have another pair so I have options besides my black pair. The prescription worked out great (I was so afraid I was going to mess it up and not be able to see out of them!) and I can see perfectly while wearing them. My only concern is that the lenses seem a bit loose in the frames, but that might just be due to the different style of glasses vs my other pair.

All in all I'm very pleased with my purchase and would buy glasses from GlassesUSA.com next time I'm in the market for a new pair (and I would probably get a cat eye pair!).
