Odds and Ends // Photography

Last post about my vacation, I promise! These are just some photos I took that I wanted to share, but didn't fit in anywhere else. I had so much fun practicing photography in a new environment. I'm definitely falling in love with my camera all over again. ♥

Happy weekend, all!

My Trip in Instagrams

1. Wearing my mustache necklace from Emily on the train.
2. My new wallet from Hannah + the worst coffee I've ever had in my life in the diner car.
3. I love St. Louis so much. I want to live there someday.
4. I had some hilarious conversations with Maddie via text.
5. Next time I go down to Mo I am coming back with a camo hoodie and/or tee shirt so Lauren and Hannah and just put that in their pipes and smoke 'em! Lol. JK. I totes love those girls! (But seriously, I need something camo!)
6. The bathroom was busy so I blow-dried my hair in the kitchen using Photo Booth as a mirror. Now that's country attitude ingenuity for you!
7. Sitting in the car with my new Dollar General sunnies + my $.75 candy bar while I wait for my uncle.
8. Riding in the back of a pickup on a sunny day is bliss.
9. Malted milk bars from the vintage inspired general store in my favorite town in Missouri.

Edit: Thank you all so much for the kind words on my last post! Reading them as they came through my email all day really made my day! ♥

I've Never Felt So Content // Daily Outfit

This is one of my favorite outfit photo sets yet. This dress (a Dahl Clothes original) is one of my favorites. I mean, there couldn't be a more perfectly "Katie" dress out there if one tried. It's got the perfect 1950's full skirt, flattering scooped neck, and is covered with gorgeous classic cars and other Route 66 sights. Paired with a mustache necklace and my Lita spikes it make the perfect outfit for me.

I left on my trip with a thought deep in my heart that it was going be big, and it was just that. I can't describe to you the feeling of riding in a big pickup truck down the open country roads in this dress, but it just felt so "me!" Like it's where I always should have been and always should be for the rest of my life.

I've always loved Missouri but this time I think I truly left my heart there. ♥

You wanna know something really awkward, though? While taking these photos a lady drove past (and gave me the oddest look!). Turns out she works with my aunt and actually asked her the next day about "that strange person in the road with a camera." Lol! Talk about awkward blogger moments!

The Other Side of Me // Honest To Blog

Ok, honesty time: I have no idea how to start this post. It's something that's been simmering in my mind for weeks now, but putting it onto "paper" is going to be a lot harder than I thought...

No doubt you all have heard (a lot) by now that I spent a week with my aunt and uncle in Missouri recently - and my trip, well, it was amazing. I had this odd premonition before hand that it was going to be a very defining point in - something - and it was. It made a lot of things I've been thinking about lately so much clearer in my head.

Within the past six months I made the difficult decision to let go of several friendships. I'm an extremely loyal friend, so even though I did everything I could before hand to make it work, I still felt really guilty about "ditching" my friends. The longer I've gone without contact with them, however, the clearer and clearer it's been to me that I made the right decision. There were so many problems with our friendship, and not the least was that I totally and completely lost myself. I stopped talking to my family and one of my oldest, closest friends because they was the only ones who "got me," and I stopped showing other sides of me because I got tired of getting shot down.

The thing is, though, that I feel like there's this whole other side of me that's not shown. Sometimes I even feel like my blog is a lie or a fraud because it's only one side of me. That's not all there is to me.

I'm not a hipster. I'm definitely not twee. I thought I was for a while, but I'm not. Not that it's bad to be either of those things - but that's just not me. I love Mason/Ball jars, but a big part of that is the fact that I've sorta grown up with them. My grandma and aunt have used them for as long as I can remember. In fact, I was drinking out of them before bloggers made it cool, and I actually know how to make jelly to put in them.

Not to go all hipster "I'm cooler than you" on you, but my point is that a lot of what I like overlaps with what is "twee" or "hipster" so it can seem like that's who I am, but I'm not. And I don't mean to sound like I'm too cool to be a hipster, but after getting rid of the negative influences in my life and bringing back some of the positive ones, I feel like I've just woken up from a dream! I look back on the past few years and all I can think is "what was I doing?? Why did I let one person influence and even - dare I say it - define who I was!?"

So what's the point of this big long ramble? I want to get back to my roots, and I want my blog to reflect that. I want more honesty here. More real talk. This will probably mean more talk of/photos of awesome pick-up trucks on the blog. This may mean me buying + busting out a camo tee shirt. This will hopefully mean more photography on the blog. The point is, I want my blog to be an accurate reflection of who I am - warts and all.

xo,

Katie

My New BFF // Daily Outfit

Hi everyone! So I'm home now, and settled in + got my room all spiffed up after my trip last week. Yay! So excited to have my room clean and looking nice! I'm hoping to film a little room tour later today, but for now here's one of my outfits from while I was on vacation.

I had so much while I was gone - I really am a country girl, you know? And it was nice to get back to that good, ol' county air/scenery. I even made a new best friend: this adorable little ginger gentleman named "the cat." (Can anyone guess where that name comes from?) He let me carry him around all week, rode in the car with me between my aunt and uncle's rental properties, and even followed us on walks! It just doesn't get any cuter than that! But I learned a valuable lesson this week: if you're going to take outfit photos whilst holding a kitty with muddy paws, it's best to take those photos last - not first. You can see the mud all over my dress in my solo shots!

Hope you all had as great a week last week as I did! Next week I'm going to share one of my favorite outfit photo shoots, so stay tuned for that. *winks*

Katie

P.S. And yes, this is my eShakti dress - again! I just can't help it! The colors + shape is so versatile, and red is one of my favorite colors! ♥
