The Complete Confection // Daily Outfit

Isn't this dress just gorgous!? When I found this fabric I knew I had to have a dress out of it, and when Molly showed me this retro inspired pattern, I had one of those "light bulb" moments where I realized that they would match perfectly together. She finished the dress almost a week ago, but when I went to wear it I got sick (boo!) and didn't feel like wearing it.

To be completely honest, I'm still not over my cold, but I had an eye doctor appointment, and I figured it'd be nice to go in something other than leggings and a camouflage hoody, so I threw on this lil' number and my brand new Lita's. It was almost fifty degrees, too, so I skipped the tights. Woohoo! (I'd apoligize for my pasty white skin, but come on! That's not going to change even after summer gets underway! #fairskinnedproblems)

The appointment went well (I even ordered a new pair of glasses! Eek! I'm so excited!) and afterward I took the hour-long gap between my appointment and when I was scheduled to start work to take myself out on a lunch date, which was a really nice treat.

How was y'alls week? And (more importantly!) did you wear anything super cute!? If so link me up - I'd love to see!

Living a Romantic Life

 Romantic - adjective:
... 2. fanciful; impractical; unrealistic: romantic ideas.
3. imbued with or dominated by idealism, a desire for adventure, chivalry, etc.
7. ( usually initial capital letter ) of, pertaining to, or characteristic of a style of literature and art that subordinates form to content, encourages freedom of treatment, emphasizes imagination, emotion, and introspection, and often celebrates nature, the ordinary person, and freedom of the spirit ( contrasted with classical)...
♥ ♥ ♥

I don't remember when I first saw the Anne of Green Gable mini series, or when I first read the book, and I also can't remember a time when I didn't love it. I think one of the reasons I took so quickly to the story was because Anne is so much like me (She's bold, rash, sometimes thoughtless, let's her opinions be known and is a little bit vain), but I think the other reason I love the story so much is because I loved the idea of living the lifestyle that Anne does. It's so romantic: I mean, the tea parties, the dances, the long walks through the woods and fields with her "bosom friend" - I wanted it all!

But then one day an extraordinary thought hit me: Anne Shirley wanted puffed sleeves on her dresses. Puffed sleeves weren't old fashioned back then. She wasn't longing for an umpire waist like in the Romantic Era a hundred years before her time - she wanted what was modern and stylish at the time that she lived in. In fact most of what Anne did was just normal life for her. Having a tea party was as common then as having a super bowl party is now. It wasn't vintage or old fashioned, it was just life. So if what Anne was doing was just normal life stuff, then why couldn't my life be romantic and full of adventures?

I think that in some small (or big!) way Anne Shirley is my hero. The time she lived in isn't what made her life so interesting - it was the way she looked at it. Who here remember "the Avenue" in Anne of Green Gables? Now who remembers "the White Way of Delight"? Spoiler: they're the same place! Anne gave us a reason to remember it. She saw and appreciated the beauty around her for what it really was. Not even the common cherry tree went unnoticed by Anne - and that's what made her life special. That's what can make our lives just as special. We just need to get outside more, really look around ourselves more, and see the beauty around us. I'm going to start tagging all of my posts and instagram photos that involve a me having a romantic life with "my romantic life" and I encourage you to do the same if you're so moved.

I'm not really sure if any of this made sense, but I'm going to do more posts on it in the future, so hopefully if it doesn't yet, it will later. Let's go get that romantic life, y'all!

Guest Post from Megan of New Eve Jewelery

Today I've got a wonderful guest post from Beautifully Pure's feature sponsor this month, New Eve Jewelry! And it's perfect timing, too, because I've decided that I am not standing outside in the freezing cold to get outfit photos one. more. time! (at least until October) Outfit photos will resume once the weather warms up, but until then feast your eyes on Megan's lovely outfit! ♥

Hi, I'm Megan from New Eve Jewelry. Not only do I love to scour the thrift shops for tiny trinkets to use in my jewelry, but I also have a soft spot for lovely vintage blouses and dresses. This vintage outfit is a blend of a few of my very favorite things - spring, flowers, brown leather, and a fun straw hat! The dress is vintage - I refashioned it into a dress from a ghastly SKORT! It was hilarious, but I could tell that as a dress it would have just the right amount of whimsy. I love these tassel vintage Bass loafer wedges - also a thrifting treasure.
The hat's from Sears actually, and the necklace is none other than New Eve. Enjoy! Happy Spring!

Owl City Concert 2.0

Oh. Em. Gee! If you've read this blog for more than two seconds you know what a huge fan of Owl City/Adam Young I am, and seeing him in concert really is a "twice-in-a-lifetime" experiences. I think I'm hooked on live music. I already have plans to see two more bands this summer (including Josh. Groban! At Ravina!! I'm so excited!!)

These are just a few of the photos + videos me and my sister took. Maybe later on I'll share some of the videos she took - maybe... *winks*

Atom Bomb // Daily Outfit

Oh my goodness! It seems like the Owl City concert was ages ago, but it was just a few weeks ago! Crazy how time flies! ♥

This is, as you might have guessed, what I wore to the concert. I realized a couple days before hand that I didn't have anything to wear, so I went out to Windsor and bought this sweater and pair of leggings, and I love them both so much! The leggings are soooo comfortable, and I the sweater is super cozy! and the plus was that I felt super foxy all night (I love the way the leather jacket looked with the outfit!)

Tomorrow I'm doing a post with the photos + video I got at the concert. I can't wait to share them - the concert was amazing and a twice-in a lifetime experience! ♥

Why I Love Katy Perry // Honest to Blog

The other night I wanted to post a graphic to FaceBook featuring a line from a Wide Awake by Katy Perry, but could find virtually no nice images. What!? I took it upon myself to make a few (or a lot! these three are just my favorites!)

There's very few celebrities I can honestly say that I admire, but Katy Perry is one of them, which is weird, because I disagree with most of what she is known for - but that's not all there is to her. Several months ago I watched Part of Me, and I honestly can't believe how much I loved it. Katy Perry is one of the strongest, most amazing women I've ever heard of.

If anyone has ever had a reason to bash their ex she does. She was married to him and did - from what I've heard - absolutely everything she could to keep their marriage going, and he still divorced her. But I've never once heard her bash him, and the one song she did (I think) write about him, isn't angry at all - it's heartbreaking, and, quite honestly, a song that I could really relate to. It's a song about her and her growth. It's not "omgsh he's such a jerk, and I'm planning my revenge!" It's just "I'm falling from cloud nine, I picked up every piece, and landed on my feet." And I think that's amazing and admireable.

So yeah, she doesn't dress the best. Yeah, some of her songs are very inappropriate, but no one is perfect, and I believe in admitting when someone is a good inspiration even if it's only in one area of life. If that makes me worldly so be it. But if I can die being able to honestly say that I handled evert break up of relationships and friendships with as much strength, grace and dignity as Katy Perry did, I'll be one happy lady. ♥

Katie

Lovely Friends

As you may have noticed, I've taken on several sponsors in the last few weeks, and today I'm going to introduce you all to a few of them! They're all super awesome. *winks*

Hi, I'm Megan Craig of New Eve jewelry. I handcraft each piece of my jewelry from vintage materials and natural gemstones. My shop name, New Eve, is fueled by my belief that no matter how battered and bruised we may be, we can always be redeemed. It's also the reason I use vintage materials as much as possible - I love re-imagining rejected old castoffs into beautiful modern jewelry!

Wildwood Flower // Trollied Dolly Review + Daily Outfit

While I was on vacation in Missouri I did a bit of online shopping, and this dress was the one of the pieces I picked up. It's from Trollied Dolly, and I've been wanting to try one of their dresses ever since I saw their brand on ModCloth, and when I saw they were having a 25% off all dresses, and the dress I loved was already on sale - well, let's be honest, who would pass that up!?

So, since I'd been wanting to try this brand out for a while, I thought I would go ahead and give it a short review. Spoiler! I love it!

The quality is fantastic. The dress feels super well made, and it's actually long enough to be worn without tights! What!? What is this even!? It's also super adorable, and though Trollied Dolly never responded when I contacted them about forgetting to specify that my address is in the United States and not the United Kingdom (I've got a dream!*) the dress still manged to get to me within two weeks!

I love this dress so much and I cannot wait for the weather to warm up so I can wear it without tights! I also can't wait for March 15th, when Trollied Dolly released their summer 2013 line! ♥

xo,

Katie

My Ultimate Rockabilly Inspired Summer Style

So lately I've been talking lots about how excited I am for summer to come, so I thought that to keep my spirits up during all this snow the Chicago area has been getting (boo!) I would do a post on my ideal summer style. Spoiler alert! It's very rockabilly influenced!

My favorite dress/skirt style for the summer usually involves a very, very full skirt; 1950's silhouette, and lots of color! Patterns are also welcome.

For shoes I usually like something bold, with a heel or wedge. Who says you can only have one "statement" piece??

For accessories I like to go bold, too. Brightly colored rings, belts, necklaces, ect. Scarves look great with high pony tails (which have the added benefit of keeping my hair away from my face!), and floppy hats just add to the chic-1950's feel while keeping the sun off my face.

What about you? What's your ideal summer style? Link me up with your ideal summer dress/skirt/accessory!

Katie Burry

Disclosure: While no one asked me to write this post, and I received nothing for writing it, several of the links above are affiliate links. Having said that is not the reason I wrote this post, and I picked out all the dresses because I like them - in fact I've had my eye on several of them for weeks.

The Mean Wiener // Hang Outs

Late last year Maddie and my mom and I finally tried out The Mean Wiener in Highwood, IL. My mom has been wanting to try it for years, but since our area has so many hot dog places around (and a lot of ones closer to us) we just didn't get around to it... until October, that is.

This is - by far - one of my favorite hot dog places around! $2 for a hot dog + bucket load of fries, and one of the best milk shakes I've ever had for $1.95. I've taken both my mom and Molly to lunch on two separate occasions and both times it was under $11 for both of us including drinks. What!? Not even McDonald's is that cheap! And the food is delicious!

It also has a really cute, semi-vintage inspired atmosphere, with old prints/photographs decorating the walls.

I know most of my readers are from scattered across the country, but if any of you are in the Highland Park/Highwood area I highly suggest you check this place out! ♥
